Out of 200 new features in iOS 6, approximately six features are included in the Safari making it much useful as compared to the earlier versions. Users can now directly upload images from “Safari”, can surf web in the Full screen mode and can open large number of tabs. Over all, it makes web surfing best, Chrome is the biggest rival of Safari which is very popular and also provides ton of similar features but it is not as fast as Safari. Let’s take a look on all features of Safari.
- Offline Reading List:
One of the keynotes of WWDC 2012 was the Offline reading list, which helps users to read articles, visit webpages while they are away from internet. If you have a simple Wi-Fi iPad and are away from Wi-Fi Network, this is the best option to read offline without internet access.
- To add an article in offline reading list, simply click on the “Book” near the address bar.
- Now tap on the glasses icon which is at the bottom right corner.
- Hit the “+” sign at top right corner to add the “page” or article to offline reading list.
That’s it! This is your offline reading list, you can access it anytime.
- iCloud Tabs:
This feature is much like the Google Chrome Sync, you can see list of all the open tabs on all of your iDevices which are connected via iCloud. Suppose if you are working on iMac and have to go somewhere else, you can leave your Safari and can see all those tabs under “iCloud Tabs” on iPhone or iPad.
On iPad, iCloud Tabs button is very next to “Offline Reading List” and looks like iCloud sign while on iPhone, it is under Bookmarks toolbar.
- History Options:
Another simple hidden feature in Safari in iOS is that you can quickly see the “history”. Simply tap and hold the back or forward button to unveil the history.
- Increase Number of Tabs on iPad:
Apple has also increased the number of tabs opened in Safari. Previously, only 8 tabs could be opened at the same time. But now, you can open up to 24 tabs, this is iPad only feature.
- Upload Photos directly from Safari:
Using iOS 6, users can directly upload photos from photos. We have already explained this feature in detail, you can check it here [Click here].
- Full Screen Mode in Landscape on iPhone:
You can also enable full screen in Safari on iPhone, simply turn your iPhone to do so. For more details about this feature. Please read this post.

Out of 200 amazing features in iOS 6, one is the Facetime over 3G.Unlike old iOS versions; you can enable Facetime over 3G. We have already posted a guide on how to enable Facetime over 3G? But still there is a catch, Facetime over 3G will only work with iPhone 4S, 5 and the new iPad.
This is very useful for all those people who have unlimited data plans but those who don’t have unlimited plans, should be careful while making Facetime calls over 3G. If you have a limited data, you might be thinking that how much data is consumed over one Facetime call? There are two different scenarios for this, weather you are using 3G or 4G on iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 respectively.
Facetime Over 3G:
Folks at 9to5Mac conducted tests by making Facetime call over 3G and following results were seen. Over a call of 5 minutes, 14.7MB data was consumed which is approximately 3MB per minute. For those people who make Facetime calls rarely, it is not a big deal. But if you are a regular user of Facetime and have limited data, than it will be probably 1.3GB data per month over 15 minutes call daily.
Facetime Over 4G [iPhone 5 and new iPad only]:
If you just got an iPhone 5 with a limited data plan, you also need to closely monitor your Data plan. According to Data Calculator by Verizon, Streaming 10 minutes video daily will consume 1.7 GB data per month which is pretty much.
So, if you regularly use Facetime calls, carefully monitor your Data Plans. We will recommend you to try out the Sprint which have truly unlimited data plan for iPhone 5. What do you think? Let us know in the comments section below.
